How to use the combat calculator
- Type in your seven combat stats; the level, not the XP.
- Read your exact combat level and which style is driving it.
- Check the "+1 level" table to see which level-up raises combat next.
The OSRS combat level formula
Combat is a weighted sum of your seven combat stats:
base = 0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋) combat = ⌊base + max(0.325 × (Attack + Strength), 0.325 × (⌊Ranged ÷ 2⌋ + Ranged), 0.325 × (⌊Magic ÷ 2⌋ + Magic))⌋ Only your highest style counts; training a second style adds options, not combat levels. A maxed main (99s everywhere) lands on exactly 126, and a fresh level-3 account stays at 3 because the game floors the result.
Why prayer counts half (and other quirks)
Prayer is deliberately half-weighted, so 2 prayer levels move combat as much as 1 defence or hitpoints level. Because the final value is floored, small gains often don't move your visible level at all; the "+1" table shows which single level-up will actually flip it. This is also why "combat braces" of the same level can have very different gear.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum combat level?
126, reached with 99s in all seven combat stats (Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic and Prayer).
I leveled up but my combat level didn't change. Why?
The formula is floored, so you were probably just under the next whole number. Level the stat in the "+1" table and it will flip. Prayer needs two levels to match one defence level.
Which stat raises my combat level fastest?
Whatever feeds your highest style: Attack or Strength for melee accounts, Ranged for rangers, Magic for mages. Hitpoints and Defence always count too, at three-quarters the weight of a style level; Prayer counts at half.
Does combat level affect PvP brackets?
Yes: many PvP activities and worlds group players by combat level ranges. That's exactly when knowing your exact level, and what will bump you into the next bracket, matters.
How do I raise combat without training combat stats?
You can't, really: only the seven stats in the formula move it. Quest and lamp XP in those skills counts like any other XP; see the XP calculator to plan the levels.
